Conwy in North Wales is a charming and idyllic medieval town and is a popular tourist destination, primarily for one major reason: it is home to the rather impressive stone structure that is Conwy Castle, as well as the town walls that accompany it. But there is far more to Conwy than the majestic castle. While many visit Conwy to see the fortification that was built by Edward I during his conquest of Wales, the town itself has much to explore with its historic buildings, shops and riverfront – not to mention its warm Welsh welcome.
Nestled on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park, the town of Conwy also has many other points of interest that visitors may not be aware of. In this film, I have included many of them to give you a taste of what life in Conwy has to offer. "Conwy, Wales - A Timelapse Story" is a visual 'a-day-in-the-life' film of the historic walled market town of Conwy, North Wales.
In March of 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions in Wales finally began to lift. Not only did it mean a shift to some form of normality, but on a personal level an opportunity to finally venture out again with my camera and photograph the local area. More so, it meant I could photograph my (at the time) hometown of Conwy in North Wales. Only a few months earlier, I purchased an online timelapse course from the American photographer and timelapse filmmaker Michael Shainblum and it was the inspiration I needed to go ahead and make my very own timelapse film.
This short film is a tribute to my former hometown. "Conwy, Wales - A Timelapse Story" is a visual 'a-day-in-the-life' story of the historic walled market town of Conwy and is captured through timelapse photography. The video consists of around 18,000 still photographs captured and painstakingly edited during the course of the year. The film took a total of ten months to create. It required a lot of planning and quite a few return visits to many of the locations that are featured. Early mornings and late nights were also very common along the journey.
During the year I was fortunate to meet a lot of intrigued visitors around the town who graciously stopped and chatted to me while I was photographing. To all of them: thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I hope they get to see this end result.
